Mani to direct Abhi-Ash in Ramayan

While once upon a time television channels got inspired by the silver screen trends, now it’s taking the role of turning into a trendsetter. After inspiring hordes of superstars to invest their time and money on the small screen, now the pattern of screening mythological films is fast catching up amongst the filmmakers. According to reports, Mani Ratnam is set to make a film based on the Ramayan. What’s more, buzz is that he intends to cast Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles of Ram and Sita. While Govinda is slated to play the role of Hanuman, Tamil actor Vikram will play Ravan.

His previous venture with the Bachchan duo, Guru, did extremely well at the box-office as well as amongst the critics. Now, he wants to repeat the magic, only this time, it’s gogin to be a hatke 21st century version of the Ramayan. Though news about the film is hot, the story line is yet not clear. There are speculations as to whether the film will depict the virtuous life of Lord Ram or will it focus on Ram-Sita love story. As it can be guessed, reason for these assumptions is Ashutosh Gowarikar’s take on Jodhaa Akbar. Instead of focusing on the various feats of the great emperor, Gowarikar chose to put his romantic liaison in the spotlight.

Hearsay is that, along with a different approach towards presenting the film, Mani Ratnam also intends to modernize the costume of his cast. Till of late, mythological films mostly came under the animated flicks’ domain. Also, at a time when action, comedy and romantic movies are the flavor of the season, this one is going to be a sure challenge for the director and his team.
