An improper allegation?

The Temple of Human Dignity- Bharatiya Cine Shrishty Manav Adhikar Santhan (a human rights organisation) has complained to the CBI and the Mumbai Police that for his upcoming film Dostana, Karan Johar has employed a few foreign junior artistes who do not have a work permit.
The complaint letter dated September 12, signed by the President of the organisation, Banty Srivastava, states: “On going through the documents of some of your hired dancers in Dostana, none of them seem to be on proper work permit.

They have obtained tourist visas for either cultural or dance performances. There is only one British national who is on a proper work permit. However, we are still not sure whether you are working with these dancers.”

Banty further writes, “Illegal flux of foreigners, their stay and greed to make quick money on the side is a potential threat to our national security. They can easily fall prey to anti-national elements.

Not to mention, how the email ID of an US national in Navi Mumbai was hacked by a banned anti- national group for the serial blasts in Gujarat.

The new modus operandi of these groups seems to be to use foreigners in order to harass and confuse the investigating agencies. We should not encourage or entertain them for our short-term petty gains.”

A copy of the letter has been sent to Karan’s company Dharma Productions, the Film Producers Guild of India and Film Federation & Association.

When asked about it, Karan was his usual calm self. He said, “I don’t get into such things in my office. Speak to Manoj Mitra.”

When contacted, Manoj, the Production Head in Dharma Productions said that the complaint was baseless. He said, “We have hired 40 dancers for a song in Dostana but each one of them had a work permit. We have not hired anybody illegally.”

“I do not understand what The Temple of Human Dignity mean by saying that those foreign dancers did not have a ‘proper’ work permit. There is no such thing as proper work permit. Either you have a work permit or you don’t. We have only worked with people who had the work permit,” added Manoj.
