Tendulkar to act in a Bollywood film

If you think Sachin Tendulkar knew only how to massacre rival bowlers with his awe inspiring shots, think again. The master blaster, who is currently playing the Test series against Sri Lanka, will soon be seen acting in a film made on the famous lord Siddhivinayak.

After Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil and even Anil Kumble, it is now the turn of yet another cricketer to make his Bollywood debut. And, this time all set to take the silver screen by storm is none other than the masterblaster Sachin Tendulkar who is set to facing the arc light to mark his entry.

Titled "Vighnahartra Shri Siddhivinayak", the film stars Parmeet Sethi and Divya Dutta in lead roles. It is directed by Yashwant Ingole, a former assistant of filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.

Anjali Tendulkar, Sachin's wife, on Sachin's debut said, "Yes, it's true that Sachin has been offered a role in the film and it will be a special appearance that he will be doing."

Apart from the cricketing legend, actor Sanjay Dutt has also been roped in for a special appearance in the film while the Big B has agreed to lend his voice in the devotional drama that will hit the floors in October this year.

The film's producer Raju Sangavi said Sachin is an ardent Siddhivinayak devotee and readily agreed to be part of the project when he was approached before leaving for Sri Lanka for the Test series.

"He told us that he was ready to do anything that we wanted in the film. We will not make him act. Acting is too small thing for a legend like him to do," he said.

"We are in the process of working out a small but significant role for him through which a strong, social message could be delivered. We would not like to reveal more details as his portrayal in the film is supposed to be a surprise for the audience," Sangavi said.

Speaking about the film, Sangavi said it revolves around a family, which is a devotee of Siddhivinayak. "There are so many stories in Mumbai on how devotion to the lord has benefited the devotees," he added.

The film is being produced by Vista Media in association with the Siddhivinayak temple trust.

Sangavi said that the temple trust has no financial involvement in the project. Some of the proceeds of the film will go the trust, he added.

With yet another cricket star set to start his innings in Bollywood, fans will be waiting anxiously to catch the masterblaster on his new pitch
