Yesterday we reported that Ranbir Kapoor and his father will be starring in a film together, and today we can reveal in another flick… Ranbir’s father will be played by the legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah.
The film we are talking about is the Karan Johar produced Wake Up Sid, which is being directed by famed actress Rani Mukherjee’s cousin Ayaan Mukherjee. Says Naseer, “Yes, I’ve been approached by this young filmmaker. But I didn’t know he is Rani’s cousin. So is Rani also part of the cast?”
No, Naseer… Rani is not part of the cast… but method actress Konkona Sen Sharma is. And when we asked him about Ranbir Kapoor, Naseer confidently responded, by saying, “He is wonderful. I saw him in Saawariya and found him to be self-assured. I am also fond of his father Rishi. I haven’t watched any of his films since he became rotund and goateed. But in his heyday, he was a very likeable actor. So yes, I’m open to doing Ayaan’s film, provided it’s not a typical father’s role. Nowadays I’m being offered the roles of fathers with one arm, one leg, one eye or half a brain. None of that for me, please.”
This is the second time that Naseeruddin will be donning the mantle of the father figure in recent times… he was last seen in a guest role as the father of Imran Khan’s character in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. “I received more compliments for being a picture on the wall in that film than for anything I’ve done for the rest of my career. I haven’t seen the film yet, though. I don’t feel audiences get upset when they see me in small parts.”
