Preity Zinta is all set to make her TV debut. According to sources, the actress is in talks with a leading production house to host a sports-based show.

Preity Zinta is known for being very clear and vocal about her opinions. This straightforward Bollywood actor has now made her views on actor Shiney Ahuja public, and they are not exactly full of warmth!

Preity Zinta, who is gearing up for her next release 'Heroes', has become a sports fan and says she had the time of her life at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore.

"Ness (Wadia) and I had the best evening of our life - all right, one of the best," Preity gushed. 'It was the first ever Grand Prix in the night and, boy, were we happy to be there! But I was exhausted. It went on till the wee hours,' Preity said.

This wasn't Preity's first Grand Prix.

"It was my third Grand Prix. I attended one in Spain and the other in Melbourne. Our very special trip to the first nocturnal Grand Prix was arranged by Mr. B.S. Ong - he was one of the chief organisers and one of the big boys in Singapore. He's like the king and he isn't even a Sinngh, ha ha. We had a rocking time. Regulars at the Grand Prix say it was one of the best organised Grand Prixs of all times."

Preity says there were lots of people from India.

"There was Rahul Gandhi (politician), Satish Sharma (former central minister), Vijay Mallya (business tycoon), Shilpa Shetty (actress). But Shilpa was in the Kingfisher's enclave. Ness and I were in Mr. Ong's box. I did go down to say hello to Vijay and that's when I met Shilpa."

Preity loves car racing and would like to try it herself.

"I just wanted to jump on to those tracks and drive those skidding wheels. I can't tell you what a thrill it is. All you need is ear plugs to make sure your ears don't burst under pressure of the sounds of those skidding wheels."

Preity is all praise for the Indian team at the Grand Prix.

"This was our first time. And I think our boys really did well. I think Mr Vijay Mallya has done a commendable job. I remember 10 years ago we used to watch the Grand Prix on television back home and dream about an Indian team on the tracks. We used to joke it would take us a hundred years. But Vijay has made it happen so soon after. Our boys were very dramatic on the tracks."

Ness had even more fun than Preity.

"You think he's too proper to let himself go? Well you should've seen him at the Grand Prix. He had himself a ball. Ness is a total sports buff. He loves every sport from Formula 1 to tennis soccer to golf. Our next sporting event is in Mohali on Oct 17 when India plays Australia. We'll be there. I hope India wins."

For now Preity is in Mumbai to dub Deepa Mehta's 'Heaven On Earth' in Hindi.

Continuing its support to the section called as the offbeat Indian made English films PVR Pictures will be distributing 'THE LAST LEAR' in India.

Bollywood’s pretty woman, Preity Zinta, would soon be honoured with with the ‘Smitha Patil Memorial Award’ for her immense contribution to the Hindi film industry. The talented actress has been chosen for the award by the’ Priyadarshini Academy’, an NGO for socio-cultural and educational welfare.

According to sources, the award ceremony would be held sometime in the month of September.

Since its inception in 1984, Priyadarshini Academy has been honouring Bollywood bigwigs for their exceptional contribution to the Indian film industry. In the past, some of the most distinguished Bollywood icons like Yash Chopra, Karishma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, and most recently Kareena Kapoor, have been conferred with this prestigious award.

This year, the very charming Preity Zinta has been announced to be awarded in the memory of Late Smitha Patil, one of the most talented and legendary actors of the Indian film industry.

Preity Zinta didn’t know a word of Punjabi when she signed Heaven On Earth, a Deepa Mehta film that was to be shot entirely in Punjabi. But she has now successfully completed the whole film. “All I knew was that I had to play this traumatised battered wife.

The problem of the language hit me later when I was told about the long monologues I was expected to deliver in Punjabi. As I am a Rajput girl from Himachal Pradesh, Punjabi was totally alien to me,” she says.

But Preity did manage to learn the language in a short span of 50 days. “You could call it a crash course,” she says. “But I only mastered the dialogues that I was required to mouth in the film. Heaven On Earth wasn’t a film about faking emotions. I had to deliver my dialogue and feel the emotions,” she adds.

Language wasn’t the only research area for Preity for Heaven On Earth. She read a lot of material and sat through documentaries on domestic violence. She says, “I read a really bulky book called This is What an Abusive Relationship Looks Like and The Woman Who Walked into Doors.

The latter is a novel by Roddy Doyle. I also watched a lot of footage on battered wives including Deepa Mehta’s documentary where the children of battered wives speak on the experience of growing up in violent households.”

Being seriously involved in a subject of such a violent nature took its toll on Preity. She was severely traumatised by the experience of playing a battered wife. In the film, she is repeatedly smacked by her on-screen husband (Vansh Bhardwaj).

Many times, Preity ended up raising her fist to retaliate, much to the annoyance and amusement of the director and her co-star. Recalling the experience, Preity says, “It was extremely difficult for me to take on the violence. I’m the kind of girl who would immediately hit back. If you slap me once, I’ll slap you twice.”

Preity was allowed no make-up in the film. “No wigs either,” she says. “Deepa made me wear hair extensions that were naturally woven into my hair to give me the perfect Punjabi look. If I arrived to the sets after a good night’s sleep, they applied black make-up around my eyes to give me a troubled look.”

Released in Toronto, Heaven On Earth will soon be dubbed in Hindi and distributed in India. Preity is currently preparing to leave for a world tour with the Bachchans.

Mumbai, June 27 (IANS) Exuberant, chirpy, happy-go-lucky Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who has now turned into a businesswoman, says she invested in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in spite of warnings from an astrologer friend.

'In spite of the warning from my astrologer friend, I went for the deal as I had a gut feeling that it is the future. I told my friend that if it doesn't work for me then I would become the 50th wife of the Sultan of Brunei,' Preity, who co-owns the IPL Mohali team, told IANS.

The star of hits like 'Salaam Namastey' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho', Preity said it was only in a developing country like India that one could think of buying a sports team.

'The scenario is going to change after 10 years. One can never dream of buying a team like Manchester United or Arsenal today in a country like England.'

Preity bought Kings XI Punjab in partnership with her boyfriend Ness Wadia and Karan Paul of Apeejay Surrendra Group and Mohit Burman of Dabur. They paid $76 million for the franchise.

Although Preity's team failed to reach the final, she is not complaining.

She said: 'My team performed well and I am happy with all the team members and will continue my support for the team.'

As far as book balancing was concerned, she said this had not been a profitable year but was optimistic they would do better next time.

How long will her association with the team last?

'I am there for life. I am not there just for the sake of it. First people took me as a brand ambassador and then as a face value, but I wanted to make people take me seriously in the game and I did my best to prove myself.

'I think I was successful (in this),' the actor added.

'I do things which I believe in and am passionate about, be it the IPL or films. I give my heart and soul to them,' Preity said.

Now that IPL is over, Preity is concentrating on her films and the 'Unforgettable' world tour with the Bachchans starting July 18.

She will be touring the US, Britain and Canada with Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya. Riteish Deshmukh and music directors Vishal-Shekhar are also a part of the tour.

'I am very excited to go with them as Abhishek and Ash are my great friends. Besides, the participation of guest stars like Akshay Kumar, who is joining us in Canada, Madhuri (Dixit) in the US and Shilpa Shetty in London, will add to the excitement.

'This is the first time when we will be joined by performers from different parts. The audiences will be huge and we are expecting an overwhelming response.'

Apart from this she will be busy with 'Harr Pal', 'Heroes', a cameo in the Salman-Kareena Kapoor starrer 'Main Aur Mrs Khanna' and Deepa Mehta's Punjabi film 'Heaven On Earth'.

You don’t go ahead and break-up just because you fight.” The talented actress is not want to talking about her marriage and she said ” Even my family is not concerned about my marriage. It’s not happening in the near future.”
