President Pratibha Patil gave away the 54th National Film Awards at Vigyan Bhawan on Tuesday evening.
Awards were presented in 31 different categories in the feature film section and 22 categories in the non-feature film section. From this time onwards, two new categories – Best Animation Film and Best Make-up Artist have been introduced. The prize money has also been hiked five times, after the President directed the government to do so during the 53rd National Awards presentation ceremony, which were also presented early this year.
Each of the awards carries cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a citation and a shawl.
