Man arrested for intimidating Big B

It can be only said that there is something seriously wrong with the brain of Devisingh Padamsingh Rajpurohit who had played the role of Abhishek Bachchan's body double for the forthcoming movie 'Drona' when some portions of the movie was shot in Jaisalmer.

Although his name starts with "Devi" which means goddess Durga, his actions turned out to be that of a devil and a greedy man.

Mr. Rajpurohit from Rajashtan has been arrested by the police for threatening none other than Amitabh Bachchan.

The young man of 25 had asked Big B for Rs.25 crore through text messages and also conveyed that if his demands are not met, the film star will be killed.

The justification of Mr.Rajpurohit is that he looks almost similar to Abhishek Bachchan, So Big B should take up the responsibility to take care of him and also give him Rs.25 crore.

Amitabh had enough when he received an SMS which stated that he is going to die and has only three more days to live.

The actor went and filed a complaint at the anti extortion cell.

The police acted immediately and traced the phone number to Jalor district of Rajashtan after which the arrest was made.

Its clash time again for the two beauties.

On one side is the dusky Priyanka Chopra who is back to avenge the destiny's decision to hand over the title of flop to her last big budget futuristic flick and regain her lost ground with 'Drona'.

On the other side stand the cute, talented and the latest bikini girl of B-Town Minissha Lamba.

The girl who is considered to be good enough because of her potential to be included in the top league of B-Town beauties in the future and who is on a high after the success of 'Bachana Aaye Hasino'.

It was on August 15 that 'God Tussi Great Ho' having Priyanka as the leading lady and 'Bachana Aaye Hasino' having Minissha as one of the heroines hit the big screens.

While the film of Salman Khan sank without a trace, 'BAH' went up the popularity charts.

Now the time has come again for two films of Priyanka and Minissha to face each other as 'Drona' and 'Kidnap' will be releasing this Friday.

This time it is impossible to side with either of the two movies as each has its own strong points and is totally different from each other except the common factor of some edge of the seat action sequences.

Let's wait and watch the verdict of the decisive Friday.

Joining the league of film stars on the small screen, actress Sushmita Sen recently made her debut with the reality show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena.

By roping in popular cricketers to shake a leg for the first time on a reality dance show, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena has managed to create the right buzz. But Sushmita's looks has drawn criticism, all that weight the actress has added to her tall frame hasn't gone down well with her fans, and of course the media.

“I love these weighty issues. I think they are lovely. One of the concerns that I have often had are about people and not necessarily people in general but specifically people in media. It’s the fact that when you run out of story ideas you look for weighty issues to talk about and that’s not a problem as long as it doesn’t blow up too much in poeple's faces and takes away from the work that I am doing which is whether TV or film. You talk about what you want, I will be very happy bystander,” Sushmita said.

The actress will soon be turning director with her ambitious dream project, a film on the life of Rani Laxmibai. And she says she has a very strong reason for going behind the camera.

“I have lived with this film for a year-and-a-half. For me to get anybody else to direct this film would mean conflict of interests on the sets because we would be constantly fighting about which visions to fulfill and that’s why I am doing it,” Sushmita said.

Sushmita also plans to essay the title role of Rani Laxmibai in the film and is currently immersed in the pre-production.

“The film will be made soon. But right now my primary concern is quite few of them. It is a huge canvas. It is a women-oriented film which is not necessarily one of the most saleable concept on commercial Indian films term. And it’s a very big film and I don’t want to compromise on it,” she said.

“Having said that, we have finished the screenplay, we are down to storyboarding and once the storyboarding is complete and my seven minutes presentation is ready for my international buyers, that’s when I close the chapter till I am ready with my wishlist, my technicians and the funding,” she added.

Sushmita's directorial debut in and as Rani Laxmibai, well that’s one film we definitely wouldn't want to miss.

Pakistani Director Mehreen Jabbar and actor Nandita Das were in the Capital to promote their movie Ramchand Pakistani to be released on October 2 across India.

Nandita and Mehreen spoke about the film and the long list of International film festivals they have taken their movies - Ramchand Pakistani and Nandita's directorial debut Firaaq to.

"We'll be taking the films to various film festivals including in London, Dubai and also a South-Asian festival and in New York where Firaaq will be the opening film and Ramchand Pakistani is closing film," said Nandita.

"We started with Tribecca and New York and went on to Rhode Island and the Osian in New Delhi. Now the film is playing at the Pusan film Festival in South-Korea," said Mehreen.

Firaaq is a film based on the aftermath of the 2002 Gujarat riots and Ramchand Pakistani is on a true story of an accidental crossing of the Indo-Pak border and Nandita seemed overwhelmed by the reception that the movies got worldwide

"Firaaq got an overwhelming response at the Toronto film festival. I've been to film festivals before as an actor but as a director it's a completely different experience. It's like taking your baby and exposing it to the world and asking everyone to pass a judgment on it," said Nandita.

"I saw Ramchand at Osian at Delhi and it won the International Film's Critics Award," she added.

While both Firaaq and Ramchand Pakistani seem to have got a thumbs up from critics worldwide the movies are yet to release for public viewing and we quizzed Nandita about whether the movies would rule at the box office as well.

"I'm worst person to predict about the box-office because I have no clue about what works in this country," she said.

Ramchandani Pakistani releases across India on October 2 but cine fans will have to wait for Firaaq till Januray 2009.
